STARSkate

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!

STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating

Private lessons are mandatory and are arranged directly with your choice of one of our Professional Coaches.

Intermediate:

Once skaters pass CanSkate Stage 5, they qualify for the Intermediate session. A Stroking lesson and group lesson by a Professional Coach are included. Private lessons are required at this level of skating. Skate Canada Tests begin in the Intermediate session.

  • Skaters in this level should wear proper skating attire on the ice.
  • Skaters should dress neatly and comfortably for practice sessions.
  • Layers are appropriate as you will require different levels of clothing depending upon the type of work that you are doing.
  • For girls a dress or skirt and tights or 4 way stretch skating pants and a close fitting top are excellent choices for practice.
  • For boys, neat, warm and well fitting pants and a well fitting top are appropriate.
  • A close fitting sweater or warm-up jacket will likely provide enough warmth for most days at the rink. Hoodies are not recommended as they can effect a skaters balance when they are spinning or jumping.
  • A warm pair of stretch gloves with perhaps an extra pair in your skating bag if needed.
  • Hair should be secured away from your face and you are ready to go!
